sessions : one tune for high load Apache php5 servers

My hosting service SitoNERD.com , that hosts many tourism sites , in these summer days is going to have a very heavy load of visitors , about 10k unique visitors per day ( 200k visits per day ) and the servers starts to feel tired .
During the day i can see a very slow responses from apache , sometimes goes in timeout . What’s happens ?
